These strategies are not only effective but also completely free to implement. So, whether you’re a seasoned print on demand seller or just starting, these techniques can make a significant difference in your sales performance.
1) Focus on Sub-Niches, Not General Topics
What if I told you that there were eight proven ways to boost your print on demand sales that are totally free to do, and anyone can start doing them today?
Well, after selling print on demand for almost 10 years now, I’ve been able to find what these eight are, and that’s what I’m going to share with you in this article.
If you’re looking for the one thing that you can do to start boosting your print on demand sales, this is the one. Rather than creating designs in popular general topics, instead focus on finding sub-niches with less competition, that is where you’re going to get all of your sales.
Rather than just blindly creating designs in popular general topics, instead find low-competition sub-niches, and focus all of your efforts there.
If you do this properly, your designs will have nearly no competitors, and you’re still going to be in topics with a lot of buyers.
Now, to do this, you can use tools like Google Keyword Planner, or Merch Informer. Both of those will allow you to find hidden sub-niches. For those of you who don’t know how to use those tools, How to Find Low Competition Print On Demand Niches (2024) everything step by step.
2) Optimize Your Designs for Various Products
The second thing you can do is optimize your designs for different products. Now, over the course of all the years I’ve been selling print on demand, T-shirts have always sold by far the most.
However, a nearly guaranteed way to increase your sales is to not limit yourself just to T-shirts. If you’re willing to spend the extra time formatting your designs onto extra products, you’ll organically see a nice little bump in overall sales.
Now, from my personal experience, coffee mugs, and tank tops have been my next best sellers behind T-shirts, so that’s what I would recommend for you.
3) Create Well-Optimized Product Listings
Moving on to the third thing that you can do to increase your print on demand sales. It has been proven time and time again that a well-optimized product listing is a small thing that you can do that’ll make a huge difference in your sales.
When you are uploading your designs, and putting together your listings, make sure that you are using keywords in your titles and descriptions.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about by keywords, I’m talking about, essentially, the name of the niche, or the sub-niche that you’re going into, and any similar variations to that search.
Now, by putting these keywords in your titles and descriptions, you’re basically telling the print on demand website what your design is about, so they know where to show it. By putting in these similar variations, you’re just going to pull in more traffic.
Another side benefit to this is that when people are scrolling through the search results, it’s going to be exactly relevant to what they are searching for, so they’re more likely to click on it.
4) Offer Seasonal and Trending Designs
The fourth thing that you can do to increase your sales is to offer seasonal and trending designs. Now, by creating designs that are about holidays, or seasons, or trends that are going on, you’re likely going to see a temporary boost in your sales.
For the seasonal items, or holiday items, they’re likely going to boost every year, which is actually really nice. However, for the trending designs, they’re likely going to have just a short term boost, but some of these you can really hit the jackpot on, so it might be worth your time.
To discover both of these, the seasonal ideas, and the trends, I would use a tool like Google Trends. You can simply type in the
idea you’re thinking about, and it’s going to show you its search traffic.
For seasonal ideas, you’ll be able to see the search traffic spike every year, and then for the trends, it’ll give you an idea of things that are just starting to start trending.
5) Leverage Social Media Marketing
The fifth way that you can increase your print on demand sales is to use social media marketing. Now, if you’ve seen my other
print on demand article, you probably already know that.
if you’re uploading your designs to the passive print on demand websites like Merch by Amazon, or TeePublic, or Redbubble, several other ones, you don’t have to do any of your own marketing because they bring in millions of organic people to their websites every single month.
However, if you want a proven way to increase your sales, social media is a very effective tool for doing that.
Essentially, all you have to do is share your designs on platforms like Pinterest, or Instagram, or Facebook, and engage with your audience. Have the links on your posts point back to the listings directly on the print on demand websites.
I’ve actually done this quite a bit over the years, so I can definitely say that you will see a boost in sales when you start doing this.
Keep in mind, though, if you are going to do this, it does take work, and it’s ongoing work, so have patience, and try to be as consistent as possible.
Now, something interesting to note on this one is for those of you who have a budget to spend, if you wanna see results faster, you can actually collaborate with influencers, and pay for sponsored posts on their social media pages.
This should give you a really quick, very easy boost in your sales, but just make sure that you’re vetting the influencers before you put a deal together.
6) Offer Discounts and Promotions
Alright, moving on to the sixth tip, and that is to offer discounts and promotions. Everybody loves a good deal, so by offering discounts and promotions, it’s a good way, and a proven way to boost your print on demand sales.
This is one that you can kind of couple with the social media idea we had just talked about, and you can push out your coupon
codes on your social media, so that’s where people can find them.
Now, something that’s important here is that not all print on demand websites allow you to create coupons, or discount codes, and then some of them, like TeePublic, they do all the promotions for you.
7) Create Social Proof
Alright, the seventh proven way to increase your print on demand sales is to create social proof. Social proof is one of the most powerful psychological buying triggers that really advanced marketers regularly use.
In its simplest form, the best way to explain how this works is, if you can show people that a lot of other people like your product, it will make them more likely to buy the product themselves.
So, how you can use this for print on demand is if you have a social media page for your print on demand business, you’ll find that customers organically post photos of themselves wearing your T-shirts, and tagging your business in them.
You literally don’t have to do anything for this, it’s just naturally going to happen over time. What you wanna do to create social proof is take those photos, and repost them on your own page, and tag those people back in it.
It creates kind of a win-win. It gives them kind of a shout-out on your page, which they will be happy about, but then also the new people coming in to see your page are going to see that other people already buy and like your products.
8) Analyze and Optimize Your Strategies
And lastly, the eighth tip for you is to analyze and optimize your strategies. All you have to do for this one, even though it sounds like
it’s boring and tedious, is just keep an eye on which niches are selling the most, then go back and create more designs in those niches to increase your sales even more.
For those of you who haven’t already seen it, I’ll link up the full step-by-step tutorial down in the article link below. It’s free here on YouTube, and it goes through everything step by step, from just knowing that you wanna start print on demand, all the way to getting your first sales.
